The Solution

While it is the employees' lifestyles that drive costs up and productivity down, the opportunity for a solution lies with the employer. Hundreds of employers have been experimenting with wellness for decades. Not only has this experimentation resulted in the creation of three (3) program models, but it has also culminated in the establishment of best practices. Figure #9 compares wellness components between "Best Practice" - a more comprehensive approach - and "Common Practice" - the more typical piecemeal approach. Not shown in this graph is the finding that "best practice" organizations achieved a 5% reduction in risk in one year, whereas the "common practice" organizations only achieved 2%. For a detailed description of the elements associated with "Best Practice" refer to the HERO Best Practice Scorecard.

It should be clear from all of the exhibits that the problem is both costly and extremely complex. Let Wellness Central be your guide. We can assist you with the design, implementation and evaluation of any of the three models - Quality of Work Life (QWL), Traditional or Conventional (ToC), and Health & Productivity Management (HPM). Join other employers in adopting "Health and Productivity as a Business Strategy" as described in a recent Hewitt Survey.
